Cardiff & the Journey West

Getting to Fishguard, however, turned into an adventure of its own.

At the station, we were given some unfortunate advice about which train to take and found ourselves having to change our plans.

Instead of traveling directly toward Fishguard, we took a later train to Swansea and then transferred to a bus for the final leg of the journey.

By the time we reached the bus, there was only a moment to spare. We were the last passengers to board, and almost immediately after we climbed aboard, the bus pulled away. We left the darkened station behind us with no cell service and almost stranded on the edge of a strange town.

Our driver turned out to be the hero of the evening. When we explained that our hotel was the Glendower in Goodwick, he went beyond what we expected and dropped us right at the door of the Glendower Hotel.

After a long day of trains, changes and uncertainty, that act of kindness felt like a perfect welcome to Wales.
